The governor of Lagos, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu today visited the scene of the fire incident that occurred at Oluwole in Lagos Island, the fire which burnt a 5 storey building started from Tuesday afternoon and didn’t stop until the early hours of Wednesday morning despite all the combined efforts of LASEMA, Lagos Federal Fire and help from banks like Union Bank and First Bank Fire Services.
The governor while accessing the damages said…
In the early hours of today, I visited the scene of the Brasas building fire on Martins Street, Lagos Island to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the incident, and spoke directly with victims and the hardworking emergency services personnel. We will provide support packages after proper enumeration, but more importantly, we need to complete the modern and a much safer market project in the area.
This fire incident was caused by factors that could have been avoided and though emergency services were on ground promptly, the building could not be rescued due to congestion and other issues.
This is a lesson we must learn about safer practices and it involves everyone.
