If there is anything Nigerians can’t wait for, it definitely has to be the Lagos-Ibadan Railway. The railway is long overdue for commissioning. The railway line which was awarded to CCECC in China has been in talks with the federal government of Nigeria that they will finish up before time. It will be recalled that the railway is constructed to take 3 south-west states which are Lagos, Ogun and Oyo State.
In September, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on tasked the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), contractors handling the Lagos -Ibadan Rail project to quickly complete the project.
Amaechi gave the charge while inspecting the new Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge railway line project, in the company of the Minister of Transportation, State, Gbemisola Saraki, Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria and Chairman, Board of Directors, NRC, Malam Ibrahim Al-Hassan-Musa, among others.
In the words of Mr. Amaechi, CCECC has not done too well. I used the phrase too well because at a time, they did us proud by trying to push this job.
In October, Mr. Amaechi was in China, where he went to inspect the trains that will be used for the Lagos-Ibadan railway and also for the Abuja stations.
We got some exclusive of the VIP pictures and also of the economy type. They are a beauty to behold.
These are the first batch of 16 coaches were dispatched in November. It will be recalled that the NRC ordered for 60 coaches for the Lagos – Ibadan Railway and the Abuja – Kaduna Railway on 16 April 2019.
