An international passport is an identity of one’s nationality. A passport grants one unrestricted access, identification and information which can be checked on the database.
The updated list of the Most Powerful Passports in the world was released recently by passport index. The list has some shocking revelations as some of the big names are thrown out of the top 10 positions.
It’s not American or British. The United Arab Emirates passport is now the world’s most powerful, according to Passport Index Global Passport Ranking for 2019. This was followed by Singapore, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, and the Netherlands.
The United States ranked No. 14 in the 2019 index, with 116 visa-free countries. And the worst?
Afghanistan finished bottom of the Global Passport Ranking, with just 29 countries granting Afghans entry without obtaining an advance visa.
Global Passport Ranking, compiled by the Passport Index ranks the passports of 193 countries and six other territories by counting the number of countries each passport can access without an advance visa. The six territories include Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Kosovo, the Palestinian Territories and the Vatican.
Nigeria has a mobility score of 50, this means that Nigeria’s passport can only have access to 23 countries that are visa free, 27 countries that will mandate a visa on arrival and 148 countries that require visas before entry.
In Africa, the country with the most powerful passport is SEYCHELLES. Seychelles has a global passport rank of 24. With a Seychelles’ passport, one can have entry into 104 countries without any form of visas, 35 countries require visa on arrival while 59 counties demand a valid visa before entry. South Africa is however third on the list in Africa, a South African passport can take you to 103 countries without visas, 39 countries demand visa on entry while 95 countries mandate visa before entry.
