Again, tragedy struck at the popular Lagos market called Balogun. The fire which was said to have started around 10.45 am on Wednesday morning gutted some buildings, shops, and some business areas. The cause of the fire was that someone was filling his generator with petrol while the generator is still running which caused the generator to explode and the fire ignited very fast due to the harmattan weather. Meanwhile, as the firefighters were battling to put off the fire from the building, a portion of the building collapsed and destroyed one of the fire-fighting truck, it was reported that no casualty as the team were safe.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Engr Tayo Bamgbose-Martins also confirmed that the fire started due to someone pouring fuel into a running generator…. says We have to be SAFETY CONSCIOUS especially this Dry Season .. #ForAGreaterLagos@jidesanwoolu@gboyegaakosilepic.twitter.com/DU5mbrTnzh
It will be recalled that late last year (2019) fire gutted this same Balogun Market where millions were lost to the fire. This will be the 6th time in 2020 that fire will be gutting various markets in Lagos all in one month.
