In our bid to report about the happenings of the Second Niger Bridge, we felt its necessary to give an update on how work is faring at the various sites of this important bridge.

It’s no news that the country is battling the COVID-19 which forced most of the construction sites to be closed till further notice and so that there won’t transmission of the virus in the workplace. The company handling the Second Niger Bridge, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC has temporarily shut down on site as mandated by the Federal Government of Nigeria, however, AutoReportNG was able to get some of the pictures of the Second Niger Bridge before they close the site even though we are told there are still some skeletal work on-site (this, we can’t confirm).

According to the images available to our news desk at AutoReportNG, it is amazing to note that work is ongoing at a very fast pace, the last time we report on this bridge was February and seeing the pictures, a lot has happened in the two-months interval. For example, the Owerri Interchange – Casting of flyover bridge abutment axis 50 is in progress, the Toll Station on the Asaba Side is currently undergoing massive construction, the road is currently getting tiled among others.

These are some of the images we got and this may clear your doubts about the Second Niger Bridge. Please quote our site when using these images for reference.

The Second Niger Bridge Project is a project by the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented through the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, in collaboration with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority.

The project at a glance

The Second Niger Bridge is a key national infrastructure, with immense socio-economic benefits for the contiguous states and indeed the entire nation.

Upon completion, the bridge will ease traffic flow, improve road safety, and create greater opportunities for local residents by advancing the commercial viability of the immediate area and regenerating economic life.

The scope of works includes the construction of 1.6 km long bridge, 10.3 km Highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station. It is expected to be completed by 2021.
