With the implementation of electronic call-up developed by the Managing Director, Nigeria Port Authority Hajia Hadiza Bala- Usman and Lagos state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu set up Lagos state traffic management team to clear off erring articulated heavyweight trucks containers and tankers that have no business at the seaport, Apapa, and its environs.

In a general operation over the past two-day, the combined team; LASTMA, Nigeria police, FRSC, MOPOL, NUTRW Traffic Monitor work collaboratively cleared off heavy-duty tankers and containers from the main carriageway both inbound and outbound of the seaport to the service lane to form a single lane with those have their call-up order to the seaport or depots clearance.
The access roads to the port from Fagbmes to Mile 2 bridge inward Otto wharf, Vanguard, Berger Under the bridge, Kirikiri, inward Sunrise, Apapa cleared off and Apapa substantially free of traffic congestion.
The Lagos State Taskforce tolled off unnecessary and illegal trucks and containers parked on the major road or break down to create free access of movement.
The traffic gridlock seems to be a thing of the pass at the nation’s premier port and level of sanity back gradually with serious effort and commitment of the government.
Special Senior Adviser on Central Business District(CBD) Hon Sola Giwa to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who led the team, said this is a continuous process as the team not relent to get rid of traffic congestion in Apapa.
According to him, all roads lead to the seaports must be a free flow of traffic on those corridors, and Lagos, Apapa traffic gridlock must be things of the past.
He warned that without electronic call-up, no containers and truck drivers have business bringing trucks near the road leading to the seaports.
Meanwhile, the roads lead to the seaport need urgent attention as part of the major causes of trucks and tankers break down.
Although, palliative work ongoing as H-Itech construction company seen using crushed stone and Asphalt to all the major potholes on the major roads for easy access of movement.
