Governor Tambuwal Describes Jelani Aliyu as a great ambassador of Sokoto, Nigeria and Africa, Assures him of the state Government’s support to nation-building.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has described the unveiling of the maiden Nigeria Assembled electric car, the Hyundai Kona EV, as a cultural revolution that would generally affect the lifestyles and life chances of Nigerians immensely.

The Governor made this observation on Friday when he received the first electric car assembled in Nigeria, at the Government House, Sokoto.

The car, being part of items on exhibition at the ongoing National Trade Fair for Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states holding in Sokoto, was presented to him by Aliyu, an erstwhile America’s General Motors proud designer of the Pontiac G6 and Chevrolet Volt, who is also the Director-General, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).

According to Tambuwal, as global scientific achievements push towards zero use of fossil fuel, the country is going to have many similar technological breakthroughs as the electric car that would revolutionize the way homes are made and kept, roads are built and managed alongside the evolution of much other material cultures, thus generally affecting people’s lives.

He, therefore, appealed to the federal government to pay more attention to these sectors as much of the world is moving away from dependence on hydrocarbons for their economic sustenance and the drive to meet the economic needs of respective countries.

The governor who said it was the first time in his life that he drove an electric car, described it and its technology as interesting and environment-friendly, adding that it is also cheaper in terms of maintenance. He commended the initiative of the NADDC and thanked the Director-General for the Council’s participation in the trade fair, saying that its presence will attract a lot of investment to the state and the sub-region.

We are here at the Sokoto trade fair, which has been given utmost support by your administration to showcase the non-oil potential in the Nigerian economy, and we present this vehicle to you so as to showcase the new technology that we believe will add significant value especially in a state like this where you can use solar energy to power such a 100% electric vehicle”.
