The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday presented 13 cars, as well as other gifts to outstanding teachers and school administrators in the state.
Speaking during the grand finale of the 2020 Teachers Merit Awards at the Sports Pavilion, Lagos House, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu said the initiative was in line with his promise to reward excellence and hard work in the teaching profession.
Twelve cars were given out at the event, while the 13th would be given to the winner at a later date.
The governor said, “Our teachers keep placing Lagos on the national pedestal. They have shown uncommon dedication to the teaching profession. They are dedicated in building character and preparing our students for a productive future.”
Sanwo-Olu announced that the awardees would serve as the Lagos State Ambassadors of Excellence in Education for the next year.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, said the nomination committee received over 3,600 applications, while 23 made it to the finals.
The teachers that got the cars are Adesola Akindele, Temitope Gbadamosi, Temitope Ibiwunmi, Rasheed Odenike, Rebecca Oyinloye, Oluwaseun Balogun, Joshua Olasehinde, Abosede Padonu-Daniel, Ekundayo Ajiborisade, Tolulope Odusanya, Tawakalitu Akinleye, Ovinuyon Buhari.
Ten other finalists were rewarded with consolation prizes.
