The police have recovered three truckloads of vandalized rail tracks and arrested five suspected vandals.
Force public relations officer, CP Frank Mba, yesterday, said the tracks were vandalized across the country and intercepted in Benue state on its way to the buyers.
He said the suspects arranged the tracks and covered it with car scraps which are used as camouflage to deceive security personnel on the high way.
While urging Nigerians to report anyone with vandalised rail tracks, CP Mba said it was regrettable that when the government was trying to revive the rail lines, some criminal elements were vandalising them.
Confessing to the crime, a suspect, Abudullahi Musa, 29 said they received the items from the people who vandalised them and bought one track for N4,000.
He also confessed that they usually sell the vandalised rail tracks to iron ore company in Calabar, Cross River state.
Recall that the minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had called on security agents to arrest and prosecute all vandals who had been vandalising rail tracks.
The vandals had vandalised rail tracks, including the recently completed Warrior to Itakpe rail line.
