PHOTOS: Osinbajo Commissions Transcorp’s Afam 240MW Power Plant

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has commissioned the Yemi Osinbajo has commissioned Transafam Power Limited, a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc’s 240MW Afam Three Fast Power plant in Afam, Rivers State.

With an already existing power plant residing in Afam, this brought the cumulative generating capacity of the plant to 1,000MW.

The project was executed in a collaborative effort between General Electric, the Federal Government, and other stakeholders to improve power generation and supply in the country.

A statement by the company said the expected outcome of the project was to augment the national grid with an additional 966 MW of electricity.

In his keynote address at the commissioning of the Afam 3 Fast Power 240-megawatt turbine inauguration in Rivers state on Tuesday, Osinbajo noted that the Afam 3 Fast Power project was executed by Transcorp Power.

According to him, the company’s Ughelli power plant had just been delisted from the privatization monitoring initiative of the Bureau of Public Enterprise and had shown itself to be an outstanding investor in the country’s power sector.

He said, “The last few days I must say belongs to Transcorp Power. Just yesterday, the National Council of Privatisation approved Transcorp Power’s consortium as the preferred bidder for the acquisition of the AEDC Abuja Disco.”

While encouraging gas producers and suppliers to have a fundamental rethink about supply security and preferred ways to ensure gas supply can improve and meet the gap and growing demand in Nigeria, he commended the Federal Government and the Group Chairman, Transcorp Plc, Tony Elumelu.
