The Lagos State Government has warned the good people of Lagos to ignore the fake news that’s trending on various social media pages especially Whatsapp about Gov Sanwo-Olu’s order on LASTMA as Fake News.
According to a tweet by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, he tweeted, “Beware of this fake news circulating on social media platforms especially via WhatsApp. Governor @jidesanwoolu didn’t say that @followlastma shouldn’t arrest traffic offenders. It is a lie from the pit of hell. Offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the Law”.
This is not the first time both the Lagos State Government and the LASTMA will be releasing statements debunking the fake news. It will be recalled that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has in January too debunked the same story as untrue.
According to the press release by the LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olajide Oduyoye refuted the claim that the decision emanated from a meeting between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Executive Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at an unspecified date, time or venue.
According to him, “the 2018 Traffic Law clearly spelled out the duties of LASTMA officers, saying that it is irresponsible and mischievous for any individual to insinuate that the governor gave directives contrary to the law”.
