The Anambra International Cargo Airport, Umueri is leaving no stone unturn in making the airport the best in the country. Apart from having the longest runway in the country, it is also making efforts in getting the latest equipment in firefighting and safety for flights.
In February 2021, ZIEGLER Group received an order from Nigeria for the delivery of three new Z6 airport firefighting and rescue vehicles for Anambra International Cargo Airport, Umueri.
The three identical vehicles are built on a TITAN 6×6 chassis and are equipped with a 750 HP Scania V8 engine. Kessler’s innovative continuously variable transmission achieves best-in-class acceleration (0 to 50 mph in about 28 seconds) and top speed (up to 81 mph). The vehicles will also be equipped with a 12,500-liter extinguishing water tank, a 1,500-liter foam agent tank, and 250 kg of extinguishing powder. With the roof-mounted Z-Turret, also newly developed in 2020, the extinguishing agent can be applied at 6000 l/min.
The delivery of the three vehicles will take place by the beginning of 2022.
On 11th April 2017 Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, launched the Umueri Cargo Airport project, saying the development, costing more than USD 2 billion, would be an ‘Airport City’, a new airport with two runways, aviation fuel, and aircraft maintenance facilities, airport hotel, business park, and international convention center. The airport witnessed a test run of flights on April 30th where different flights including Air Peace made a grand entry to the airport.
