Elon Musk has rethought the transportation system he hopes to introduce with The Boring Company.
Under his initial proposal, Musk’s tunnel-digging company would construct underground tunnels that would be filled by electric sleds transporting private cars from place-to-place. However, the outspoken entrepreneur has had a change of heart and now he is in favor of having passenger buses riding on the sleds.
In a series of tweets published on Friday, Musk shared footage of one of these proposed buses being lowered underground with a host of passengers on board.
“Will still transport cars, but only after all personalized mass transit needs are met. It’s a matter of courtesy & fairness. If someone can’t afford a car, they should go first,” Musk said.
Building tunnels to be used by buses and private cars isn’t The Boring Company’s only objective. In fact, the company will be tasked with constructing the tunnels to support Musk’s proposed high-speed Hyperloops which would transport passengers in pods at speeds of up to 700 mph (1,130 km/h)!
“Boring Co urban loop system would have thousands of small stations the size of a single parking space that takes you very close to your destination and blend seamlessly into the fabric of a city, rather than a small number of big stations like a subway,” Musk said in a separate tweet.
