The city of Beijing launched the operation of two mobile nucleic acid testing vehicles on Sunday in the city’s Xicheng and Chaoyang districts to raise testing efficiency and improve the working environment for medical staff.
As the two vehicles, which are from the Foton Motor Group, are put into use, residents in the capital can receive the tests conveniently near their communities or workplaces.
Each vehicle can provide space for four groups of medical staff to take samples at the same time. In addition to the medical facilities, each vehicle is equipped with a rest area where people cool off in air-conditioning and enjoy protection under sun-proof shades, which are welcomed by medical staff, as well as those who received the tests Sunday afternoon.
According to media reports, Beijing has conducted nucleic acid testing for 7.69 million people, with more than 8.3 million samples collected by Sunday since the city reported the first local COVID-19 case in the new infection cluster on June 11, according to a senior official on Sunday.
Beijing has been increasing its testing capacity since the epidemic started in January.
The number of hospitals and medical institutions able to conduct tests in the city has increased from 75 to 144, according to Zhang. The city’s daily testing ability has increased from 40,000 on June 11 to 458,000 at present.
