Creativity they say is not restricted to race, tribe or position, it’s all embedded in all. A Nigerian youth corps member, Oladele Ogbeyemi, spent the recent lockdown rebuilding a Mazda car and turning it into a beautiful vehicle, he was able to make the car by using waste materials he took around.
Ogbeyemi who graduated from the Yaba College of Technology, a tertiary institution based in Lagos, Nigeria, said he achieved this design during the recent lockdown imposed by the country’s government.
Speaking on the project, Oladele said, As a present NYSC member, (LA/19C/11514), this project kept me busy during the lockdown.
My inspiration for creating this art piece is as a result of my passion for converting discarded materials into art. These materials cause environmental pollution in several ways yet I have found a way to recycle and convert them into sculpted arts.
Accoiling these materials which consist of scrap metal, plastics, spoilt generator parts, retired tools etc and refashioning this Mazda 323 brings some sense of fulfilment to my heart. Yet, this is just a glimpse of what I have inside of me.
Although it was a difficult task for me due to the cognitive and economic challenges that encompass the project, one of it which was saving up my 6 months ‘allowee’ in funding this project, the car almost set ablaze several times in the processes of sculpting and welding.
I’m glad that this project was completed successfully, he said.
These are pictures of the masterpiece that he created.
