The first Assembled in Nigeria “KONA ELECTRIC “ vehicle has continued to gain more recognition from major stakeholders owing to its uniqueness and specialities.
The Electric Vehicle was formally presented to the House of Representative Committee Chairman on Public Account Hon. Wole Oke by the Director-General NADDC Jelani Aliyu MFR. in National Assembly Complex on Monday 1st March 2021.
The Director-General during the presentation said the KONA Electric vehicle is proof that the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) is working and that the NADDC is creating a comprehensive ecosystem for the production of vehicles in Nigeria in line with the 2016 Paris Agreement basically aimed at reducing carbon emissions from vehicles as part of solutions to environmental challenges.
“NADDC is also into technology transfer, we are collaborating with the University of Nigeria Nsukka, the University of Lagos and Usman Danfodio University Sokoto to develop electric vehicle charging stations pilot programme, understand the challenges, the opportunities, help the technology transfer and bring more private sectors to expand the achievements “ he added.
According to Jelani, the Council is in collaboration with Jaiz bank, Zenith bank and Wema bank to provide a single-digit financing scheme to enable people to buy made-in- Nigeria vehicles.
Upon inspection of the vehicle, the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Public Accounts, Hon. Wole Oke, commended the effort of the Director-General and the entire NADDC in developing the Nigerian Automotive Industry, adding that the KONA Electric vehicle and projects of the NADDC are evidence of the efforts and achievements in the Nigerian Automotive Industry.
