NUPENG, HITECH Frustrating Govt Effort On Apapa Traffic Gridlock -LASG
The Chairman, Lagos State Task Force, on Apapa Gridlock, Toyin Fayinka has disclosed how Hitech construction company and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union of Nigeria (NUPENG) are frustrating the effort of the state government on traffic gridlock on Apapa/Oshodi expressway.
The chairman made this known on Friday where he accused the management of Hitech Construction Company, charges of Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Mile 2/Tin-Can Port road deliberately frustrating the electronic call-up system for movement of trucks in and out of the ports.

He noted that the state government has no control over the federal road construction work, as their activities of the contractor’s slow pace of work on the road affect traffic gridlock.
Also, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union of Nigeria (NUPENG) is yet to key into the e-call up the system and their activities of petroleum tanker drivers along with Apapa/Oshodi expressway affecting the government effort
According to him, “we have had meetings with the representative of the contractor alongside with NPA management severally but to me, it looks as if they are deliberately doing it.”
“The activity of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union of Nigeria (NUPENG) along that axis is also problematic”.
An eye witness however noted that fuel tankers lade from Second Rainbow to Fagbems filling station queuing up to Otto Wharf, Vanguard, inward Berger to Sunrise on a main carriageway and service parked on one lane side this morning.
While from the First gate to the Second gate Tin-Can Apapa there are clusters of articulated containerized trucks waiting endlessly parked on the main roads.
And also, most of the tankers were expected to navigate to the depot at the MRS terminal while some little articulated containerized trucks were seen close to Liverpool, Tin Can Port waiting for a call-order to the seaport.
It was noted that MRS closed the main gate that ought to have allowed all the tankers querying outside the main gate to have access to the loading points gate on the pad and lock as at the time of filing this report.
Speaking with one of the driver’s tankers said they have been on the road for the past, one week. He said: the issue is from both the depot and Hitech company as the road is average good like before.
