The Federal Road Safety Corps, Benue State Sector Command, has warned motorists against speeding given its consequences to road users and motorists.
The warning came on the heels of the auto crash that happened exactly at Ngido village along Katsina-Ala-Zaki Biam Road on Wednesday where no fewer than 12 people were reportedly killed.
An eyewitness who pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent that the accident happened around 12:32 pm involving two vehicles.
The eyewitness claimed that one of the drivers of the vehicle who was speeding tried to escape the pothole and in the process rammed into an oncoming vehicle which also was at speed.
The eyewitness who did not want to be mentioned said, “One of the drivers tried to dodge a pothole but had a head -on collision with an oncoming vehicle.
“Twelve people were killed in the accident. The Golf vehicle (for commercial) had nine passengers and the Nissan car (private) had three people.
“The four that sustained various degrees of injuries and conveyed to the hospital have died.”
But confirming the accident to journalists in Makurdi on Wednesday, the Sector Commander of FRSC, Steve Ayodele, said eight people were killed in the crash.
He said, “It’s a multiple accident involving two vehicles and it was fatal. 10 persons were involved – four female adults, one male adult, and one female child.
“Out of the 10, eight people died. Four female adults three male adults and one female child. Two persons were injured and were taken to the Kastina-Ala General Hospital for medical attention.
“It was a head-on collision; one of the vehicles was trying to avoid a pothole and rammed into an oncoming vehicle. I guess it was as a result of speeding otherwise they would have been able to manoeuvre their way.
