The Second Niger Bridge has been on the centre of controversy, some are asking if truly work is ongoing as claimed. We promise our readers a regular update on this bridge on a monthly basis on this bridge with verifiable pictures from the site.

The Second Niger Bridge project was initiated by the former President Goodluck Jonathan, and the vision has been sustained by the present government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The bridge is being constructed across Nigeria’s Niger River and is intended to ease traffic congestion and will span from Asaba to Ozubulu and Ogbaru areas. The project is undertaken on behalf of the Nigerian federal government by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing jointly with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority.

We got the aerial view of the pier head working platforms for incremental launching. This is where the bridge will be stationed, the foundation has to be solid in order to keep the bridge standing.

According to the November image update that we got, the work is moving at an amazing speed base different angles and also from their engineers on-site, for example, the sand-filing has started on the Onitsha axis, the pier heads too are almost at the finishing stage as virtually all heads have been casted, also the casting has reached a logical stage, this casting will form a pillar for which the bridge will form a joint on and lots more that we can’t exhaust in a writing.

It should be noted that the Second Niger Bridge is a key national infrastructure, with immense socio-economic benefits for the contiguous states and indeed the entire nation.

Upon completion, the bridge will ease traffic flow, improve road safety, and create greater opportunities for local residents by advancing the commercial viability of the immediate area and regenerating economic life.

The scope of works includes the construction of 1.6 km long bridge, 10.3 km Highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station. The bridge is estimated to be completed in 42 months (3 and half years) and so far, 26 months seem gone.
