Lagos Motor Vehicle Administration Agency Set To Clampdown On Offending Motorists, Tricyclists
The Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), has reiterated its commitment to ensuring zero tolerance for any motorist that failed to comply fully with all laws guiding motor vehicle administration in the state in line with the recently signed Executive Order on traffic-related offences by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
General Manager of the Agency, Deola Adepoju, who stated this during a meeting with stakeholders at Ikeja, warned that the government would soon clamp down on the commercial tricycle and motorcycle riders who are yet to obtain necessary documents to ply Lagos roads.
She said: “It has been observed that not only do most tricycles and motorcycles riders ply the road without being registered duly, but they also don’t carry number plates. They go about their business without obtaining rider’s card, which is in contravention of 175d (v) and 196(I) of Motor Vehicle Administration Agency Law (Part 7) respectively”.
Adepoju also disclosed that the Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle Spare Parts Dealers are also contravening the MVAA law, Section 9 (202) for not registering their businesses with the Agency, stressing that the organisation has many zonal offices across the state where the dealers can get the necessary information on the registration process. She, therefore, advised all concerned to make it a point of duty to do the needful by regularizing all their vehicle papers as required by the government, stressing that with effect from 1st of August, 2019, enforcement and clamp down on erring riders and motor vehicle dealers will commence and offenders will be prosecuted and sanctioned according to the law.
