Lagos State is the epicenter of the CoronaVirus in Nigeria. With 59 confirmed cases, the state is not leaving chances for any outbreak in the state, this is why the state government is bracing up for any eventualities in the days ahead.
The Lagos State Government alongside Nigeria’s foremost bank, Guarantee Trust Bank unveiled 110 Isolation Bed that was donated to the Lagos State Government.
Lagos State Government has taken delivery of a 110-bed isolation facility on Lagos Island, where confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the State can be managed and treated. The facility was conceived and built-in collaboration with the management of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
Managing Director of GTBank, Mr. Segun Agbaje, on Saturday, personally handed over the hospital facility to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, five days after the bank started the construction of the isolation centre sited on the main bowl of the Mobolaji Olufunsho Johnson Stadium in Onikan.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the bank’s management for the speed with which the structure was built, disclosing that the facility was equipped with “world-class” equipment and medical supplies that would aid the State Government to deliver adequate care to those infected with COVID-19.
Reacting to the gesture, Gov. Babajide Sawo-Olu in his word said, we took possession of a 110-bed isolation facility, newly constructed by GTBank in collaboration with Lagos State Government in the main bowl of the Mobolaji Olufunsho Johnson Stadium, Onikan.
This makeshift structure is a world-class facility that was achieved within a week, was built by contractors at multilevel who worked tirelessly to put it up within the shortest time possible. It is also fully equipped with world-class equipment and medical supplies to aid the delivery of adequate healthcare to patients infected with COVID-19.
I am highly elated that GTBank recognized the need for this important collaboration. This kind gesture is a huge reflection of the can-do spirit of Nigerians, especially the brand GTBank.
We are going through tough times globally, and what we are doing in Lagos is to develop excess capacity in the event of an escalation in the number of COVID-19 cases within the state.
The makeshift isolation center was started early this week and they were able to finish up within 6 days. Lagos State has been in the news for having the highest case ever, this is because Lagos is a gateway state for flights, sea and other economic activities in the state.
