Third Mainland Bridge Work

The Executive Director Borini Prono, Mr Paolo Prono gave an update into what his team has been doing for over 5 weeks now.

He explained in clear, yet, technical details, the ongoing work done in the rehabilitation of the Bridge in the video which was released by the company, also, he said, the demolition of the old expansion joints and immediate replacement with stronger and more solid joints.

” We are here on the first joint of the third mainland bridge. We have demolished part of the asphalt thickness, then we have prepared the bed of the joint with the special mortar.” He concluded.

On Friday, July 24, the second-longest bridge in Africa, the Third Mainland Bridge, was partially shut down for maintenance work. The bridge, which starts from Oworonshoki and links Apapa-Oshodi Expressway as well as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island, is arguably the busiest in Africa.

The bridge, which was inaugurated in 1990 by the Babangida military junta, used to be the longest in Africa until 1996 when The 6th October Bridge in Cairo, Egypt was completed. There has been reports about some weak joints of the bridge, which has raised some serious safety worries for users of the bridge.
