The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday urged the executive arm of government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to account for the procurement of three helicopters purchased by Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
The speaker, Mudashiru Obasa specifically called on the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ministry of Special Duties, LSSTF and relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to come forward with details of the helicopters.
Hon. Mojisola Meranda had raised the issue of the helicopters, under matter of urgent public importance during Plenary on Monday.
She said the contractual agreement signed by the Lagos State Government and the entity entrusted to maintain the usage of the assets needed to be looked into considering the fact that government was not making revenue as earlier announced.
“The entities in charge of these assets should be written to as to why there is no revenue coming into the coffers of the State and there is a line that pays for the maintenance of these assets,” Meranda said.
The helicopters were purchased during the administration of former governors, Babatunde Raji Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, necessitated to serve dual purposes of security and revenue.
The Speaker, however, directed the Clerk of the House, Mr. Azeez Sanni to write to all relevant Offices and MDAs to give an account on the procurement and maintenance of the three helicopters.
In another development, the Animal Bill, 2020 scaled through its second reading on the floor of the House.
The Bill is for a Law to regulate the ownership, licensing, care, and sales of pets and prohibit or restrict persons from having custody of animals dangerous to the public and where permitted, to license, control and regulate the custody of such animals and for other connected purposes’.
The Bill was therefore committed to the House Committee on Agriculture chaired by Hon. Kehinde Joseph to report back in two weeks.
