The Lagos-Ibadan Railway Project is a $1.53 billion contract was awarded in 2012 to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation for construction of the Lagos–Ibadan segment (156 km) of the standard gauge railway by 2016.
The project which is a public-private joint venture is to link three states together, that is, Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states. Such that those working in Lagos can reach Ibadan in 30-40 minutes maximum.

The railway has undergone a series of delays from both the government and contractors handling the project as we are not even sure of when the project will be commissioned. We are told that the rail lines laying has been completed from Lagos to Oyo State and various terminals are beginning to spring up. One of such terminals is the Lagos, Ebute Metta terminal which when completed will be the biggest and the busiest in the country.
In October, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, disclosed that the $1.6 billion Lagos-Ibadan railway project will be completed on or before January 2021, he said this during an interview in Lagos.
He explained that by December 2020, to the first or second week in January 2021, the project should have been completed. The terminals for the Lagos-Ibadan Railway Project are: Apapa, Ebutte Metta Junction, Agege, Agbado, Kajola, Papalanto, Abeokuta, Olodo, Omi-Adio and Ibadan
