Things seem not to go smooth for commuters plying the Rumuokoro flyover following the closure by the state government. It was gathered that the closure of the Okoro-Nu-Odu (Rumuokoro) flyover in Port Harcourt forced people to resort to using a wheelbarrow as the fastest means of transportation, especially for those who can’t trek.
It takes those who trek fast an average of 30 mins from one end of the ‘curfewed’ flyover area to another. Those who aren’t fast spend 45 mins upwards.
Due to the closure of the road, commuters resort to wheelbarrow which the northern guys used to ferry people who are too tired to trek across the bridge. The distance is said to be 1km long. Those around Rumuodumaya, Omachi, Rukpokwu, and environs can’t wait for the newly built flyover at Rumuokoro to be open to traffic so that there about 4-month long trekking can end.
It was gathered that the flyover has been completed since early January 2021, but remains closed from motorists as it has not yet been commissioned by Governor Wike.
