The Minister of works and housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola was in Cross River state on Monday where he inspected the bridge linking Nigeria to Cameroon in Ikom, Cross River State.
Mr. Babatunde Fashola on Thursday inspected the progress of work at the 1.5-kilometre Mfum / Bermenda bridge and the 1.2-kilometre Ikom bridge being constructed by the federal government.
The Mfum/Bermenda roads link Nigeria in Etung LGA of Cross River State to Bermenda in Southern Cameroon. The project which cost 38 million dollars was executed under the auspices of the Road Sector Development Team in the Ministry of Works headed by Engineer Ishaq Mohammed and is 98 percent ready for commissioning while the Ikom bridge is 88 percent completed
Both bridges replace handing bridges erected over sixty years ago by the General Yakubu Gowon military-government.
Speaking at the end of the inspection, Fashola said the bridges would boost international trade and also improve the relationship with Cameroon.
