Work has resumed on the ever-busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The road which links many roads and communities together has been abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic but now, the workers are back on site.
According to a release by the company, it reads CCECC Nig. Ltd., upon work resumption in May from the lockdown, made efforts to regain all lost time in order to complete all lanes at the section covering Trade-Fair to LASU on the Lagos–Badagry Expressway project at a constrained time frame.
Over 2.7km of construction has been completed on the service lane and 2.3km on the toll lane–Badagry bound. The installation of drains, kerbs, barriers, etc. is ongoing. The proposed diversion at Iyana-Iba is at the stone dust filling, spreading, and compaction stage.
At the Iyana-Iba interchange – Lagos bound side, construction is progressing in preparation for the erection of piers. The trimming of piles and the construction of pile caps are major points of concentration and this part of the project is almost completed.
The construction of the interchange at Alakija has seen a lot of progress, as most of the outstanding works are almost finished. Parapet walls are now being installed at the minute remaining sections, while the abutments at the FESTAC extension side have been readied for casting.
At the FESTAC extension deck-on-pile bridge, extensive work has gone into the exposure and trimming of piles, whereas reinforcements are currently being installed for the deck and capping beams casting.
The Lagos-Badagry Expressway is the local name for the Nigerian section of the Trans–West African Coastal Highway. The expressway connects Lagos, Nigeria with Dakar, Senegal.
Extensive reconstruction of the Lagos portion of the expressway began in 2010. When those renovations are completed the Lagos portion of the expressway will be widened from four lanes to ten lanes for road vehicles and a new mass transit line will operate in the median. Two of the expressway’s lanes are intended to be exclusively used by the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit System
