The wagons that will be used for the Lagos-Ibadan railway and cargoes services have finally arrived in Lagos, Nigeria. The wagons which totalled about 41 were spotted at CRRC factory in China.
The EP70 wagons were specially developed by CRRC for Nigeria. It will be used for fast transportation of containerized goods. The wagons can be protected from sunlight, rain and snow.
It will be recalled that at the beginning of 2019, China Civil Engineering Construction Corp, responsible for the construction of new standard-gauge lines in Nigeria, awarded CRRC Qishuyan a contract for the supply of 21 diesel locomotives and multiple units of which the EP70 wagons are among. The order covered the delivery of six DF11GN diesel passenger locomotives, nine DF8BN freight locomotives, two DF7GN locomotives, four NDJ3N locomotives.
For rolling stock development, in November 2019, Nigeria government and CCECC company have inaugurated the construction works for an assembly plant in Kajola, Nigeria. The project is carried out under a partnership between the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the federal government of Nigeria. The assembled wagons will be used on the two railway lines as well as for the central railway connections in the country. At the plant, the wagons are also targeted to be delivered to other countries in West-African sub-region.
The wagons are currently en route to Nigeria where the wagons will be used for cargoes and help to relieve the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan express roads.
