Nigerian drivers are an amazing set of people who always find a way to beat the system most especially when it has to do with law enforcement on the road.
Several times, the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) has warned drivers against overloading, especially during the lockdown period when the virus is virtually in all states. The FRSC during the period of the lockdown has arrested a lot of drivers who have flouted the overloading law.
Under the FRSC offences and penalties codes, penality for overloading is pegged at N10,000. Overloading is a traffic offence which is committed when a vehicle conveys load or number of passengers more than it’s designed or legally permitted to carry. The offence attracts a fine of N10,000 ( Ten thousand Naira only) under the Federal Road Safety Commission Establishment Act (2007). Overloading (OVL) has resulted in the loss of many lives in Road Traffic Crashes (RTC), the vehicular control is affected when the vehicle is overloaded. More people are also exposed to the risk of death or injuries when a vehicle is overloaded. Obey traffic rules and regulations always.
The FRSC has arrested some vehicles who load their vehicles beyond the acceptable load limits within the country, below are some of the vehicles impounded and toiled to the FRSC office.
