See The All New Oshodi-Abule Egba BRT Sanwo-Olu Is Set To Commission (PHOTOS)
Barring a last-minute change, history will be made on Tuesday as the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu will commission the newly completed Oshodi-Abule Egba Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor.
The project, which will give relief to motorists and commuters, was conceived in 2017 with the aim of reducing travel time on the ever-busy road by almost 75 per cent.
It was constructed by an indigenous firm, Strabic Construction Ltd, and supervised by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
The BRT buses will operate on a segregated route carved out of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway with buses expected to run a maximum of 30minutes between Oshodi and Abule Egba, a distance of 13.68 kilometres.
The phase One of the project has 14 bus stations between Abule Egba and Oshodi. Five of the bus stations are bilateral, facing both sides of the Expressway as well as nine medium stations.
The bus stops are Bolade, Ladipo, Shogunle, PWD, Airport, Ikeja Along, Mangoro, Cement, Iyana-Dopemu, Adealu, Iyana-Ipaja, Pleasure, Ile-Epo and Super/Katangua.
With work done and dusted on the first phase, Lagosians will now look forward to the commencement of work on the second phase which will run from Abule Egba to Toll Gate, the boundary of Lagos and Ogun States.
The idea which was conceived in 2017, there is the belief that it would give relief to motorists and commuters on the corridor as it aims to decongest the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, which has long collapsed and is calling for the attention of the federal government.
